The 7-year-old horse will be Shoemaker's mount in Saturday's fifth race - called "The Legend's Last Ride" - at Santa Anita Park. It will be Shoemaker's farewell ride.

"Welcome to the club," said David Cross, approaching Strike the Gold's barn and fellow trainer Nick Zito. Cross was the winning Derby trainer in 1983 with Sunny's Halo.
